CLAY ERVIN

Clay joins the 2017 Miners on the heels of his freshman collegiate season at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he had seen limited varsity action in games through May 1.  The 6-1, 195-pounder had appeared in only four varsity games for the Bears during that time period but had also been pitching frequently in JV games for the school in 2017 to get in more innings pitched as he was working his way back from an arm injury.
He joined the Lenoir-Rhyne program as a much sought after recruit from Bunker Hill (NC) High School, where he finished with a career high school earned run average of a stellar 1.57 in 19 games (14 starts).  He demonstrated there the ability to strike out hitters by fanning 98 foes in 84.2 innings on the mound versus 40 walks en-route to an 8-4 record.
