Matt spent the spring of 2017 playing his junior season for Oakland University and did the bulk of the catching for the Golden Grizzlies this spring, appearing in 39 (all starts) of the team’s 43 games through May 5. The 6-1, 215-pounder during that time period recorded a .234 batting average (34-for-145) and is third on the team in both homers (3), and RBI (23) while also being fourth in total bases with 54.
Oakland University is located in the greater Detroit, MI area and is a member of the ten-team NCAA Division-I Horizon League. The Rockford, MI resident will join his college teammate, left-handed pitcher Austin Sherry, as members of this year’s edition of the West Virginia Miners.
College baseball runs in the DiLeo family as Matt’s brother Tony, appeared in 111 games for Eastern Michigan University during his four-year career there from 2013-2016 as a career .235 hitter (64-for-272) which culminated with him being a team co-captain during his senior season in 2016.
